STAND ASIDE, PYEONGCHANG: THE OLYMPIC SPIRIT IS COMING TO WYOMING
Updated: Nov 14, 2018
Yes, there will be all sorts of exciting Olympic action happening in South Korea this month – but PyeongChang may have to keep its eye on the prize – and make sure that Wyoming doesn’t run away with the spotlight! Because two fabulous events will be coming to Wyoming this February: one that’s extremely heartfelt, and one that’s just quite silly – but both will embody the Olympic spirit and be great fun. 1. 2018 Special Olympics Wyoming Winter Games The 2018 Winter Games will see 350 athletes, coaches, Unified Sports partners and chaperones converge on Jackson on February 6, 7 and 8 for this world-class sporting event. Athletes will compete in alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing. And a few new events have been added this year, including a torch run and a figure skating demonstration. Bring it on! 2. Animal Olympics Can you jump as high as a bison or flap your ‘wings’ as fast as a hummingbird? Well now is the time to find out because the staff at the National Elk Refuge are busy putting the finishing touches to a series of activities focused on the athleticism of the refuge’s animal residents. Just pick up a challenge sheet at the welcome table, make your way to the various challenge stations and take part in the physical activities to earn a prize. After a day of soaking up the Wyoming Olympic spirit, why not spend some glorious downtime by your very own fireplace in a King Fireplace Room at the retreat-style Wyoming Inn in the Grand Teton mountain range? This elegant 380-square-foot room boasts everything you need to relax after a day of Olympic glory, from complimentary Wi-Fi to a roaring gas fireplace to cozy up beside.
