THE ROUGH AND THE SMOOTH: 2 FABULOUS WAYS TO ENJOY THE WATER IN JACKSON HOLE THIS SUMMER
Updated: Nov 14, 2018
If there’s one thing we’re definitely not short of here in Jackson Hole, it’s water! As we’re nestled between the Teton and Gros Ventre mountain ranges, and bisected by the Snake River, there are a multitude of ways to enjoy the water during the summer months. Here are two of our favorites…
1. THE ROUGH: WHITEWATER RAFTING
Jackson Hole is heaven for adrenaline junkies – especially those who don’t mind getting a little wet! Jackson Hole Whitewater offers classic three-hour whitewater trips for $82 for adults and $65 for youths aged 12 and under. This eight-mile adrenaline-fest along the whitewater section of the Snake River operates all summer until October 15. This section of the river is a Class III river and includes the famous ‘Lunch Counter’ and ‘Big Kahuna’ rapids – so hold on tight!
2. THE SMOOTH: SCENIC RAFTING
If you like to enjoy the water at a somewhat slower pace, take a look at the scenic rafting trips offered by Barker-Ewing. We’re especially fond of the wildlife combo trip. You’ll spend your morning viewing the breathtaking scenery and incredible wildlife of Grand Teton National Park, so don’t be surprised if you stumble upon some bison, elk, bear or bald eagle! Then it’ll be time to take a seven-mile scenic float along the Snake River for a spot of lunch at the company’s private camp. Perfect! Prices are $200 for adults and $185 for children. If you’re looking for a great hotel to dry off in after a day of fun on the Snake River, look no further than the retreat-style Wyoming Inn. Oozing Western ambience, its elegant rooms and mini-suits provide the ideal escape in natural surroundings. The property offers some exquisite views and absolute comfort.
